Bayan Baru - Carpenter Street

Sarawak cuisine, hmm, something that is really hard to find in Penang (or I don't know where to find it. :P). Since my visit to Kuching, I had been wish to taste another plate of the Kolo mee, and my wish come true when Carpenter Street opened at Bayan Baru.

The restaurant located just beside the Ambank Bayan Baru (same row with KFC and CIMB). It is a small place with limited seats, and always full during lunch time. So, need to be there early if going there for lunch.

What do they serve? There is not much choices but they have all the important dishes available. :)

The menu, simple and nice. I prefer this type of menu instead of the whole stack of menu to choose from.

Ah......the 3 layer tea........The 3 layers are tea (top), evaporated milk (medium) and gula Melaka (bottom). Not sure why but I really like this, whenever the restaurant has this, I'll just order it. :P

View from the top. It has a different taste from the normal "teh peng" (iced milk tea) ordered from the roadside coffee shop. It is not that sweet and has the nice taste of the gula Melaka.

Another main dish -> Sarawak Laksa. It is another must try dish as it is very unique and different with Johor laksa and Penang laksa.

Queensbay Mall - Sakae Sushi

I had been to Sakae Sushi for n times, just that not sure what is the reason, everytime I was there, I'm cameraless......finally, here comes one and only time (until now) I brought a camera with me to the restaurant.

Before the appearance of Sakae Sushi, I always go to Sushi King for the sushi and handroll, as there is no alternative for it in Penang. I particularly enjoy sitting near the kaiten belt and wait for the sushi to go pass one by one infront of me, and then snap the one that I was waiting for...

Well, Sakae Sushi brings another kind of the experience to me, with its concept, everything is before my eyes, I don't even need to talk to the waiter/waitress to order anything (perfect for an introvert like me) and eat peacefully without the needs to ask for green tea refill as well. :P The best part.....is the RM2.00 salmon nigiri, too bad that it is gone, it is now cost RM4.00 per plate. :P

Queensbay Mall Sakae Sushi outlook, it is located on the 3rd floor at the center atrium. it is just beside Xian Ding Wei Restaurant. If you coming down or up from the escalator at the center atrium, you won't miss it. You need to be early especially on Friday for lunch or dinner, or else, you'll need to wait for the seat. Yes, it is always full.

As we are there early, we were guided to our seat immediately, seat number 24, a 2 persons table, just beside the kaiten belt. :P

The good thing about Sakae is that, the kaiten belt will visit every table. So no matter where you sit, you'll get to enjoy the sushi passing by infront of you.

The only time you'll get a waiter/waitress to take down your order is just right after you sit down, where you'll get to order your drink first. They have quite a number of varieties in terms of beverages.

Which include.......beer!!! :P Just that it is expensive to order, and I don't drink hard liquor. :P

So, as usual, Genmaicha!!!! It is RM2.00 and it can last until your stomach is full with sushi.....

So, here we go to prepare the genmaicha. First, put the tea bag into the cup....

Second steps, look for this thing at your table. It is the tap to fill in the hot water into the cup. The only thing I always worried about this "feature" is that when you have kids sitting with you, you'll need to take extra care, as the water is really hot.

Last steps, fill it up, this is another part that I don't like. Sometimes, the latch is pretty tight and it is hard to control the flow of the hot water. And 99.9% there will be some dripping onto the table action happening.....

After settle the drinks, it is time for food. Here is the fun part. Every table is equipped with a monitor and a mouse. The whole menu is on the screen, just click and click and click for the food you want...

Both of us like to eat sushi, but there is a headache part, as sushi is not cheap, we need to think hard and eat within the budget.....:P Wife is thinking hard to order what for this round. We decided to go for some special maki which we never try before......and of course the new RM2.00 nigiri......forgot what is the name already.

While waiting for the food, it is time to screen through the table and see if there is anything special on offer or not. On each table, it is the notice, to tell all the customer that, the salmon nigiri is now RM3.99.......

The monthly special, which if you have Sakae membership card, there will be discount for it.

The soy sauce plus wasabi, the best to go with sushi.....

They will prepared the wet tissue at each table, but if you don't want it, you can just tell the waiter when you asked them to finalized the bill at the table. :) This is nice as some of the restaurant force you to pay for it. :P

I ordered a miso soup (RM1.99) as it has been a long time since I drank it. :P

The new RM2.00 sushi, forgot what is the name but I had order 2. It taste quite good actually.

Here come the special maki -> Ebi Tempura Cheese maki. Nice! It is quite pricey (RM12.90) but worth it. :P

You can immediately apply for a Sakae Card at the payment counter or renew as well. It cost RM20.00 for the application/renew but they'll give you 20 Sakae point immediately which equals to RM20.00 of bills...you can use the point to offset your next bill. :)

Lunas - TanKee Roast Duck Restaurant

After so many years since the first time I ate this, finally I pay a visit to the shop again when my sis request for it. As I don't really remember where is it, I totally relying on the Garmin to bring me there. It is around 30 minutes from Alma and I nearly miss it as the signboard of the shop already change color from the age. :P

The outlook of the shop, if you coming from Bukit Mertajam, it is on your left. The shop is huge so you won't miss it. The signboard has a faint pink color now from the fresh red long time ago.

It is a simple shop, with a stall hang with the roasted duck and lots of table...

Not sure if the worker is a foreigner or local, but he is really good at it, and not only one, i think there are a few of them who can chop the duck like a pro...

We reach the shop around 1.00pm, and these? Gone in 30 minutes.......yes, it is really fast gone. So, be early to avoid disappointment. The shop opened from 11.00am to 2.30pm.

Once we are there, we just choose a table to sit down, and then the worker came to take the order. There are 4 of us with both my daughter, so we ordered half bird of the roasted duck, braised eggs and taugua, with a bowl of chai buay. You can choose either rice or porridge to go with the meal. As we are extremely hungry, all of us go with the rice. :P

And of course, chai buay is a must!!!!

Then the duck is served, the skin is crispy and the meat is soft, nice!

Lastly, how much does it cost for a meal of 4 person? The answer is.....RM24.00. It is cheap!!!!

Gurney Plaza - Chicago Rib House

Ever since CRH Juru Autocity closed down, I had been hoping they'll reopen either at Gurney Plaza or Queensbay Mall. And here they are, back on business in Gurney Plaza. It is located at the old Manila Place, which is along the same stretch as the Starbucks and Coffee Bean. Just walk along that stretch and you'll not miss it.

Since the return of CRH, I had been wanting to revisit the restaurant and chew on the juicy ribs again. :P And of course, the mocktail pina colada.....

The place at Gurney Plaza is smaller compare with Juru Autocity, but the business is much better. The crew are much more friendly and you'll feel a bit like TGIF style. :P

The menu, the content looks almost the same, with some differences.

The best changes they had made....."Kids eat free everyday!" :P

After previous experience, we didn't order any appertizer or dessert. Fortunately we didn't order any, as I had to help finish up the kid's meal as well.

Lastly, if you are going there, especially on weekend and public holiday, make sure you call for reservation first, as it is always full of people. :)

Jalan Padang Lalang - Swenz Cafe

After bringing the baby for jab, thinking of going for a brunch at Pak Hainan, when we walk to the restaurant which is just 2 shops away from the pediatrician clinic, I just realized that it already changed name. It is now Swenz Cafe. Well, I just give it a try since it seems like same concept with Pak Hainan.

When the waiter pass us the menu, I saw that there are actually 3 branches around Butterworth area, and I saw a new one coming up at Taman Gemilang Permai there.

There is a huge wall paper explain on the objective of the restaurant. I didn't read it through since I was sitting farthest from it.

Not much changes of the interior since Pak Hainan...

Grade A restaurant, which means it is clean and safe enough. :)

Since it is a brunch, so I ordered breakfast and lunch together. :P Firstly, a try on the coffee...taste ok, nothing spectacular or extraordinary.

Toasted bread with kaya and butter, my usual favorite for breakfast.

Fried rice for lunch, it is nice! Try it out if you are there.

Straits Quay - Blue Reef Fish & Chips

Penang latest hot place for leisure and food - Straits Quay. Well, I only been here for once, this is my 2nd visits and this time is for lunch. With recommendation from friends, we head for the Blue Reef Fish & Chips.

The restaurant is located at 3A-G-20, which is in Straits Quay West building, if you enter from the front, just turn to your right and walk straight to the end. It will be on your left with a fish sign there.

They do have "happy hour menu"......things are much cheaper during these time frame.

Well, an even better deal.....the "Weekday Lunch Promotion"....order a main course and add just RM1 to get a soup of the day with garlic bread and a glass of ice lemon tea.....

The soup of the day, it was mushroom soup. The plate is huge but it is actually shallow, so just nice for a person to eat it. I was hope that the bread can be a bigger slice. :P

Chicken Cordon Bleu. I ordered this with recommendation from my friend. It is good. :)

The seafood galore cost RM55.00, Chicken Cordon Bleu is RM20, Fish and Chips is RM26. So it is around RM30 per person to have a meal there. :)

Butterworth Sunway - Abbey Road Bistro Restaurant

Whenever we have a special day to celebrate, especially in Penang mainland area, it is tough to get a nice fine dining restaurant. The only one that I had know of is the Bandar Sunway Victoria Station.

Until recently saw this article in TheStar, only I realized that there is another fine dining restaurant just a few shops away from Victoria Station Bandar Sunway.

The outlook of the restaurant. If I didn't read the article, I think I'll never walk into the restaurant, since it doesn't looks like a place for a family to hangout. :P

Closeup look at the signboard, it looks more like a pub but don't be fool by it. It is a place suitable for everyone, including family gathering!

Inside the restaurant, there are 2 setups, the high table and the normal one. this is the high table. The lighting is not as bright as the photo, I need to +2EV in postp to get this. :P

The restaurant is based on Beatles theme, so there are lots of The Beatles poster and photo everywhere in the restaurant.

Including the ceiling! So, if you are Beatles fans, enjoy the ambience and environment at the restaurant.

If you need a drink with friends or family, don't worry, they got serve wine as well. :)

After ordering, there is some time and we snap around the restaurant. :)

When I browse through the menu, I saw they serve Irish Coffee!!!!! Without second thought, I immediately place the order for it. :P While I was not a drinker, but I has a fascination to try it out after reading one of the mandarin books about it. :P

I ordered mushroom soup for the appertizer, it comes with a slice of garlic bread which is nicely toasted.

The mushroom soup is nice, it is one of the nicest I tasted before other than Fisherman Grill. :)

The main course, lamb shank for me. When it comes to lamb, I always cautious to order as lamb is not easy to cook it nicely, especially on the removal of the smell.

I did a slicing test on it, and it is so soft! It must has took the chef sometimes to cook to this softness level. The meat is soft and taste nice. If you are there, must give it a try. :)

Main course for wife, pan seared sea bass served with grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes. While I don't find the name interesting, it taste nice!

While the food portion from the photo looks not that much, it is just nice for me. The Irish Coffee is nice, but I'm not sure if it is suppose to taste like this since it is the first time I try it out. :P

The best part of the restaurant is the boss, he is so friendly and always make you feel like home when you are there. When I snap around the restaurant, he even offer me to snap at the toilet. Don't get me wrong, it is because they put some effort on designing the toilet as well. :P

The total cost of the meal is very close to RM100, I think is around RM99. :P It is worth the money for the experience and the food there. Totally feel happy after the visit to the restaurant.

Bayan Baru - Poh Meng Durian

After staying in Penang for 10 years, finally I make up my mind to tryout Balik Pulau durian. While I was try to find out where to eat the durian at Balik Pulau, I found out from my colleague that there is a stall selling Balik Pulau durian in Bayan Baru, which make my plan to eat durian during lunch is possible!

The stall is near the traffic light outside of the Pantai Mutiara hospital, opposite the Bayan Baru Fire Department. Look at the crowd during lunch time.

The sign is pretty small, so you need to pay extra attention to notice it. If you coming from Pantai hospital direction, you won't be able to turn right to the durian stall, so the way I use is go through Sunway Tunas and turn back into jalan tengah to get to the stall. There are limited parking around the place, so be patient when finding parking, the durian won't run away. The stall open daily from 1.00pm until 10.00pm. There are 2 rounds of durian delivery from the Balik Pulau's durian orchard, first time is 12.45pm and second time is around 4.00pm to 5.00pm.

Special machine...for....

Open durian!!!! :P According to the aunty, the machine is more suitable for people like me (noob at open durian). Really thank you to the aunty for taking the hassle to demo it to me. She is really nice and carefully pick the durian for me. She inspects the durian carefully and if there is any cracks on the durian, she'll change it without hesitation.

This is how pro open up the durian, aunty say open like this is much faster than using the machine. :P

Another variance of 红虾, 坤宝 (kun poh). The thorn is short and fat. The durian is much bigger as well. I like this the best, the taste is very near to 红虾, but the price is cheap.

Queensbay Mall - Xian Ding Wei (Taiwanese Tea Room)

We had been seeing this restaurant for sometimes, but never thinking of giving it a try as after looking at the menu, it is a bit pricey. While we are out of idea on what to eat on a special day, we decided to give it a try.

The restaurant is located at the central area 3rd floor, just beside the famous Sakae Sushi restaurant. You'll not miss it since it is just beside the escalator.

Once we seated, the waitress bring us the menu...

Well, as usual, just like most of the restaurant, they also has special lunch set for you.

We order the chef recommendation set, the M8 (Taiwanese Supreme Chicken in 3 variety of sauces set) and M9 (Taiwan-Style Sweet and Sour Pork set). There is one very interesting lunch set that I think I'll want to try it next time, which is the vegetarian set (variety vegetables steamboat set).

Now come the best part, if you order 2 lunch sets, you'll get a free dessert FOC (snow ice)! I chose braised pork rice to go with my M8 set while wife choose white rice for her set.

While waiting for our food, I quickly check around the restaurant and found out the decoration is really nice......at the back is a clear glass where you can see through and look at all the chefs busy at the kitchen.

Decoration on the wall, lots of black and white photos. It is really nicely decorated. The area is closed so I didn't walk and see what is exactly inside the photo. But it looks like a story telling of the shop...

When I look at the setup of the chopstick and spoon, it looks normal. Then I take another look, the chopstick and spoon all has the nice printing of the restaurant logo.

After I took up the spoon and chopstick, only I found out the special holder they have beneath. And it has 2 functions, to hold the spoon and chopstick, and as a source plate as well. :)

What should we do while waiting for food? As usual, pull out the smartphone, surf surf surf. :P lol......oh ya, there are free wifi provided by the restaurant, remember to get the password from any of the waitress. :)

How much does it cost? It is around RM50 (including tax) for 2 set lunch. It is a bit on the high side, but the food is good. So, it is worth to give it a try. :)

While waiting for my wife (which I have around 40 minutes to kill), I decided to go for a cup of white coffee at OldTown QBM.

Since it is around 4.30pm, I'm still eligible to take their MyTea menu, which is much cheaper than the normal price. Remember though as the MyTea menu only available from Monday to Friday, 3 - 6pm.

I had a cup of white coffee with add on of 2 pieces of toast bread with kaya and butter. The total cost is RM5.90, it is better than go for starbucks or coffeebean. :P

Toast bread or iphone? Make your choice. :P

Sg. Tiram - Joo Leong Cafe

There is this famous breakfast and dinner place around the FIZ Bayan Lepas that I had been to for quite a few times, the only thing is that I never notice what is the name of the shop all this while, until I finally found it on the google -> http://www.penangnet.com/jooleong/. All these while, we had refer to the coffee shop as "两片两粒" (In Hokkien), which means "Dua keping Dua biji" in Malay. Why is it called that way? Later you'll know. :P

Every morning breakfast time and evening dinner time, when you are on the way to Penang airport, you'll cross a stretch of the road where there are lots of car doing all sorts of illegal parking on the roadside, and some even double parking which took out the most left lane of the road. Is the food really that good until you willing to risk receive a saman? My answer is -> THIS IS A SHOP YOU CAN NEVER MISS IF YOU ARE IN PENANG. :P

The outlook of the shop, it is a very authentic old coffee shop which selling breakfast and dinner. I always like the breakfast there because it is nice and most important -> cheap! If you going there during weekend, you possibly need to working hard to find a parking and wait for your seat.

While all the franchise shop come with fancy and nice menu, they have very simple single huge menu nailed on the wall where every table can see it clearly. Check on their price, so cheap......

I ordered black coffee ala old coffee shop style, it just feel not right not to have coffee together with toast bread and half boiled egg.

Ok, now come the explanation of the "dua keping dua biji". The shop is famous for its white bread and half boiled egg, and it always come is a pair for each item, which means it is pretty standard that everyone come to this coffee shop to order 2 pieces of toasted bread and 2 half boiled eggs in a cup. :P

The bread is the main selling point during breakfast time, as the white bread is homemade, which means it is made by the shop owner, not source from any place. It is toasted with heavy margarine on top, which makes it salty. There are sugar at each table readily for you to add on the toasted bread, so you can customize the sweetness of the bread to your liking.

I personally prefer to add the sugar while the bread is still hot, as I enjoy looking at the sugar melted on the bread. Don't know why, I just like to watch that process. :P

Now, come to the next best favorites of the shop -> "Dua biji", the half boiled egg. There is nothing very special about it, but I like the portion of the half boiled egg. It is just nice and won't be overdose like the "Omega Egg" that those more expensive chain coffee house like to use. One thing I'm not sure if it is actually "kampung chicken's egg". But with the price they charge it, should not be. :P

Now they have extra variants for breakfast, there are nasi lemak on the table, fried beehoon and mee on the counter to make your breakfast even more interesting. :)

While we waiting for our breakfast, we got treat of 2 Tambun biscuits by the seller outside the shop. :P

D'Piazza - Cina Muslim Restaurant

Whenever I wish to bring my Malay friends for food in Penang, it is always give me some headache. As I don't want to always just bring them to the Malay Restaurant or vegetarian food, I need to work hard to search for other varieties which are Halal (Certified by JAKIM). For the recent (actually few months back. :P) team gathering lunch, we found out a rather interesting halal restaurant at D'Piazza Bayan Baru, which is named as "Cina Muslim Restaurant". It is really not easy to find a Chinese operate halal restaurant, and this is the first one that I actually bump into in Penang.

The entrance. The frontage of the restaurant is not huge, so you'll need to pay attention to notice it. The restaurant is actually 2 storey. If you have a big crowd, you can choose to go upstairs, there are plenty of seats up in the 2nd floor.

Certified halal, so eat carefree at the restaurant for Muslim. :)

We ordered the package on the menu, and we actually prebook it so the food served in a shortwhile once most of us reach the restaurant. This is the fried sotong.

Spicy chicken in a pot, taste quite nice. The most important, I didn't feel it is that spicy, so it should be ok for everyone to test it out. :P

Steam rice. It is unlimited and you can eat as much as you like.

Tofu with vegetable.

One of my favorite dishes, Chinese Napa in hot oil, garlic and chili. It is soft and melt in the mouth. Nice!

Deep fried string bean with chicken minced, spicy and salty, but nice...

Quick boiled fish with special sauce.

Special deep fried mutton chop. It looks nice when it is served, but not sure why not really a favorite dishes for us. It is a bit dry and too salty to my taste.

Deep fried brinjal with spicy sauce, nice nice nice!!!! A must try!!!! This is the first time I ate this type of dishes.

There is another prawn dish which we finish it before I manage to take a photo of it. :P The whole meal is enough for 10 people and it cost around RM200++.

Lebuh Penang - Veloo Vilas

Before this, I never had any desire to go and try out any Indian food, as I don't really have friends who can introduce me to any nice Indian food.

Until I known one of my colleague, who basically a fans of Indian food, introduce me to Veloo Vilas. He claimed that this is the best Indian food in Penang, out of curiosity, I joined him for the first time. After that, I always join him whenever there is free time for lunch at the shop.

Veloo Vilas located along Lebuh Penang, near the Great Eastern building. It is a small shop house that you'll need to pay attention in order not to miss it. There is very little parking place around, so you might need sometime to get one. Or as always suggested by my friend, wait for 5 minutes to see if any cars move out from their space. :P

There is also a stall outside of the restaurant selling nice curry puff and samosa.

Veloo Vilas is a small restaurant and family style, which brings you really nice feel when dining there. After renovation, they put up a huge and clear menu on the wall. Truely say, I like the environment before renovation better.

To have a meal here is easy, you just need to sit down, then the banana leaf will be lay infront of you and the side dishes (vegetables) will be automatically served.

Then, you can choose between the white rice or brown rice, fried egg or sambal egg.

Lastly, choose between vegetarian, chicken or mutton.

There you go, a meal......it will cost you around RM9.00 with a glass of homemade yogurt drink. :P

Teluk Tempoyak - Ikan Bakar Adnan Hassan

Teluk Tempoyak, one of my favorite place to go for "ikan bakar" (barbeque fish) in Penang island, due to the price and also the freshness of the seafood there. The other reason I always went there for dinner is the scenery.

Reflection reflection reflection...there is a big piece of tinted windows near the jetty where you can see the reflection of yourself and the seaside clearly.

Food! We ordered the ikan bakar, bbq crabs and prawns. You can order steam rice as well if needed. There is also a stall selling cool coconut juice.

The fish, the specialty here is the chili sauce they put on top of the bbq fish. The fish is bbq'ed on top of the banana leaf.

Suggest to go there during full moon as the tide will be high and you can hear the wave coming in clearly. Also, if you like photography, the moon will be round and clear.

While the moon is up and the sun is still touching the horizon, you can really get a nice scenery there while enjoying your meal. :)

The stall start operation from 6.00pm, so plan your time properly. :P We reach there way too early, around 5.30pm and have to wait for sometime. :)

Juru Auto City - Winter Warmers Coffee & Tea House

Winter Warmers always give me an impression of a vintage English tea house since the first time I saw it at Gurney Plaza. However, I never step into it as it looks like it is going to cost me some money for a cup of tea.

As we were looking for something to eat during Friday's dinner time at Juru Autocity, we decided to give Winter Warmers a try.

The outlook of Winter Warmers at Juru Autocity...I always like to visit any restaurant at Autocity as they are always more spacious than other branch in Penang. The restaurant is on the same row as KFC, Sushi King, Tao, Nandos and it is besides Subway.

The ambience of the restaurant, soft light and the vintage setting, it gives you a soothing and relax feel couple with the soft music playing in the background.

Some cakes in display, as you can see, there are free wifi available through the Riger router + modem. :P

I like the table cloth, it is nice...

Lavender cheese cake, the aroma of lavender plus the cheese taste just great! The portion is just nice for two persons to share as a dessert after the meal. (But we eat it as appertizer, :P)

The unique serving of the restaurant - The drink is always serve in a jug plus a wine glass. This is fruit cocktail (forgot the exact name). :P

I ordered Lavender drink, it comes with lavender jelly inside, nice!

Main dish, mango chicken with rice, it is served with half mango! The usual problem with any mango based food/drink is that the taste is always like the cough medicine. It is not easy to get a mango based food that really taste good. What I can say about this dish is that the sauce is just nice and there is no cough medicine taste in it! Which explains that there are no artificial "mango" flavouring added. :P

King Street - The Sire Museum Restaurant

It was my birthday that we decided to eat something special at Georgetown, and I decided to bring my wife to this famous The Sire Museum Restaurant which featured in famous food blog like penangtuapui.com and lingzie.com (since she has been consistently remind me about this restaurant. :P).

Now, some story on the restaurant. The place is actually owned by the Yap's family where it is started off as a museum which telling the story of the Yap's family. It is from here that I learned about the history of the famous BHL bank in Penang. I'm not sure who are the owner of the restaurant but it is a 2 in 1 concept which means it is a restaurant at the front part of the building and a museum at the rear of the building.

As we don't really know where it is located, we really have to depends on the information on the web, but seriously I didn't pay attention to the info as I was way too confident with my Garmin Nuvi255W and MFM free map. It shows that I had make a big mistake, after our visit to Kuan Yin Temple, we went into the car and switch on the GPS, I type in "The Sire", none......=.="

So, with no other choice, I tried my luck by driving around the area as it should be around (tipped by my friend). After turn one and two, as we drive along King Street towards the new Great Eastern building, tada, there it is The Sire Museum Restaurant on our right. It is a bit tough to find parking lot at lunch time but maybe it is my birthday, there is one empty slot just near the restaurant. So I park and feed the meter for 1 and a half hour. Then we proceed to the restaurant.

So, this is what it looks like at the outside, there are actually one servant waiting outside to open the door for you. Usually when this happens, you'll know that the food is not going to be cheap.

The operation hours spell out clearly beside the entrance of the restaurant, together with the gred of the restaurant. Gred A shows that this is a clean and nice place. Walk into the restaurant you'll first pass through the bar area with a few tables, then you'll need to pass through a small lane into the main restaurant area, where you'll be served lunch or dinner.

The bar at the main restaurant area, you can see that there are plenty of selections available. They do offer some cocktail in the menu.

The dining table are well placed and decorate. Each table has a fresh orchid (must be not cheap) and an oil lamp to improve the ambience.

There are a few sitting at the first floor as well.

Another side of the restaurant, you can see there is a waiter guarding the entrance to the museum. You are not allowed to take photograph in the museum. So what I can say is, it worth to pay a visit to the museum eventhough you have no intention to dine at the restaurant.

The upper floor is the museum area as well, if I'm not mistaken, the museum has 4 floor of display.

Plants at one of the side of the restaurant, the design of the restaurant is really carefully taken care of. They even building a nice cabinet to actually semi-hide the air cooler in it at the side of the bar. So, if you don't really pay attention, you can't even notice there is an air cooler there.

Appertizer - French onion soup. When it is served, I a bit hesitate to taste it as it is not really looking good. But after the first few sip, when your tongue start to get use to it, you'll start to appreciate it.

Close up on the toast bread in the middle of the soup. There are butter taste when you bite the bread, which means that it is well toast to golden color together with butter on it, nice!

Close look at the dining table, so you can see that it is not a one whole piece of the table top, there is actually some space in between the wood pieces, so becareful if you are placing your tiny car keys or any tiny stuff on the table, especially don't hold your iphone in vertical and place it on the table as support. You have been warned. :P

Forgot what is this, wife ordered grilled fish dishes, it comes with some melted butter on top. It looks black because my PS skill is too bad, over contrast on the photo. :P

It actually taste nice and the portion is huge (for our appetite).

I like prawn, so I ordered a big prawn (lobster) pasta. The baby lobster is grilled to perfection and served together with the pasta and tomato based sauce. I felt the lobster meat is a bit too tender as some part it is really hard to cut and chew.

2nd April 2010 - My thirty second birthday, both me and my wife took leave to enjoy a carefree day and have a simple and nice celebration. Early in the morning, we started our journey by having a nice breakfast. At first I did thinking of the normal coffee shop, but the weather is so hot that and I don't want to sweat like a waterfall early in the morning. Then, I was thinking of Old Town, but don't really want to have breakfast there.

Hmm......so left the choices of McD Autocity or Seven Village Restaurant. Well, McD breakfast is nice, but we decided to try the breakfast at Seven Village Restaurant. So, I ordered toast bread, Milo hot and soft boiled eggs; wife ordered Milo ice, "Guang Jiang" and the famous "Koay Teow Th'ng".

Taman Bayu Mutiara, a place I pass by almost every week (sometimes everyday), and keep passing by this restaurant, and yet I never think of actually pay a visit. Until one day when I logon to facebook, and saw one of my friend (where his company just upstair) post on his wall about this restaurant, and proclaim it as "famous", I was like "wow, damn"......

The name of the restaurant is actually Seven Village Noodle House (七廊果条汤), the restaurant is started in Butterworth (I guess) and this is their new branch at Bukit Tengah. I'm not sure why it is actually called as "Seven Village", maybe it is created by people from seven village, or the seller sale at seven village before or the place where the restaurant started is called seven village or.......since I never have the habit to chit chat with the owner, you'll need to find out by yourself. :P

It is quite easy to actually get to the place, if you are coming from the PLUS highway, just turn out from the JURU exit and turn left, then go straight until the traffic light, you'll see the Taman Bayu Mutiara infront of you. Go straight and then turn left into the shop houses area. Since there is only single row of shop house, just keep going to and flo until you see the restaurant. :P

The restaurant is on a corner lot, there a big mandarin yellow "seven" sign, so it is very easy to notice it.

The menu......it is actually nailed on the wall, shiny and classy.......never imagine that selling Koay Teow Th'ng can be so classy as well...and the most important, notice the price, so... so... kopitiam price......cheap!!!

There are 2 sections of the seat, one area with air-cond and another one without. So, sure find the seat at the air-cond area lar....

Utensils......so neat, so clean......100 mark. :P

Now, we reach the highlight, the nice nice "loh bak" and "guang jiang". Guess, which one is which? :P
The most left is "loh bak", others are "guang jiang". When I saw "guang jiang" on the menu, I have totally no idea what is it (maybe because I'm not "Penang Lang"), when it is server, I'm still don't know what is it. And actually until today (after eating a few more times), I'm still don't know what is it. I just know it is nice and something make from glutinous rice. :P

For the main dish, it is either the "Koay Teow Th'ng" or this ramen. They put a soft boiled egg in it together with some green veges and minced meat. So, the key is mix them all and you'll get a nice, soft and smooth ramen.

Juru Auto City - Manhattan Fish Market

Manhattan Fish Market (MFM) is another franchise restaurant that I like. Eventhough there are 99% of the workers there are foreigners, they are always well trained. Again, I was at the Juru Auto City for a dinner as birthday celebration for my little girls (more like I want to eat the food there. :P).

I always like to visit Juru Autocity's outlet (any restaurant), the outlet there is always spacious, the waiter is always more pro (proper english, smiley face, fast services)...This is the outlook of MFM...

Once we walked in the restaurant, this is the view came into the eye, nice.....

The table setting, stated there established since 1822, woot...hmm.......I got curious, so I did a google search (of course after ate finish and back to home to search online. ;P)

Woohoo! MFM
This is one of the most powerful restaurant website I encountered before, they even have their menu and prices on the website! If you are interested with the restaurant history and story, everything is there...except the kitchen sink.

From the table, looks like MFM is in Singapore and Bangkok as well......

Standard saurce: got tartar, minced garlic and salsa, not bad not bad. Nice......
It seems like no matter what you order, these are the sauce they will put on the table.

Woot woot, pepper and salt, cute! But I still prefer ceramic type. :P

Captain's Quencher - Carbonated orange twist, nice......the CO2 + Ice + Orange, it did give some kick to open up my taste buds.

Wife ordered 100 Plus, it looks just like when I ordered the same thing at the food court near my house, except the price :P

Fried Calamari, nyam nyam, my favourites. The only problem is that we also ordered the "Manhattan Seafood Platter for Two" where there are also one whole row of fried calamari. So, I got a "sotong hangover" after the meal. First I feel myself like a blur sotong.......but don't get me wrong, the fried calamari is nice. :)

Manhattan Seafood Platters for Two! Got fried fish fillet, got fried oyster, got flaming prawn with cheese!!!! got butter rice and fries!!!!! Superb!!!!! But I need to warn you first, the serving is really huge......let's say if you can only eat one McChicken for one meal, that is like 4 McChicken's serving.

Seberang Prai City - Chego Restaurant

This is not the first time we went to Chego Restaurant at Seberang Prai City, but it was the first time I bring my parents to eat Korean food. The restaurant is located on the first floor, on the stretch where all the restaurant located.

I like the environment and the ambience in the restaurant, which I think is very suitable for a meal for families and friends. I particularly preferred the tatami seat......

If you bring kids along, they have special plastic culinary set for the little one.

We ordered a barbeque set which complies of 7 small dishes, 2 flavor of barbeque chicken, one tofu soup and one stone rice. Besides that, we also ordered a special dishes (limited time offer) which is "fried glutinous cake" (炒年糕). It is supposed to be a popular dish for Korean restaurant.

The marinated chicken barbeque......There is worker to do the job for you, and also if you don't like the heat, they can even barbeque it for you at the next empty table (that is what I ask them to do, because it is dangerous to have kids around the barbeque pit).

The vegetables come with the barbeque chicken (waiting for being barbequed as well).

The barbequed chicken, cut into pieces and serve to you. You are supposed to use the salad leaves provided to wrapped the chicken and eat it. The salad leaves can be refill.

There is also sauce given for each person for the barbeque chicken.

The tofu soup, the smell is strong and it is sweet and spicy......my all times favourite......

This is how it looks like after everything mixed together. I consider this is a must try also if you dine in a Japanese/Korean restaurant. :P

The “炒年糕", thought that it would be sweet, but it is salty, totally surprised me and it actually taste good! Beware, it is expensive. :P

Finally, finish all the food......the portion is quite a lot, and we actually ordered the 2 persons barbaque set. So, if you are small eaters like us, becareful when you placed the order. :P

Sunway Carnival Mall Seberang Prai- Kim Tavern Restaurant

After visiting to Penang Bird Park, it is lunch time. Since it was raining, we decided to eat indoor at Sunway Carnival Mall, which is just 2 mins away from the park.

There are plenty of restaurant in the mall, we decided to choose something that we never try before - Kim Tavern Restaurant.

It is located at the Lower Ground level (LG-04) near to Nandos and Kopitiam Junction. This is the entrance of the restaurant. The setup of the restaurant is quite nice, but the lighting is a bit dim, I'll like it to be brighter.

The table has been ready with the culinary set...nothing special though.

Little girl happy with her seat and busy reading the menu...the waiter's attitude is not very good, it gives me a "look" when my little girl not willing to return the menu, and I can see there are still plenty of menus at the counter...

Parents and my 100 plus. :P After a round of walking in the bird park, time for rejuvenation with 100 Plus.

Nasi lemak with curry chicken...the rice is not fragrance enough (in my opinion lar), I prefer a stronger coconut milk taste...

Penang Abu Siti Lane - Anba Coconut

If you having lunch around Burma road or Macalister road, leave your stomach some space for the special dessert at Abu Siti Lane...the famous Anba Coconut (water or jelly).

Abu Siti Lane is a one way street, so make sure you turn in from Macalister road. You need to turn in before the Red Rock Hotel.

At the end of the Abu Siti lane, you'll see the Anba Coconut on your left. Be prepare to turn a few round to get a car park.

This is the shop, you can see that it is a small shop with green coconuts place everywhere inside out the shop. If you lucky, you can see the lorry unload the coconuts at the shop. It is really a lot!

There are a few big trash can place around the shop, you can see almost every trash bin almost full with the coconut hull......

I like the coconut jelly, they peel off the outer layer, and do "something" to the coconut, and see......it becomes jelly!

Penang Abu Siti Lane - Hotbowl Nyonya Delights

Since the first I tried the Kari Mee here, I had always want to go again with my wife. Well, since she is now work in the Island, we found a Friday lunch time and go to test it out.

The restaurant is situated along Abu Siti Lane off Macalister Road. You'll need to turn into the lane through Macalister Road as it is a one way lane.

There are not really a lots of parking lot here, so you might need to make a few round or park further away.

This is the outlook of the shop, it is an old residential house converted into a restaurant. The red color sign is very unique and you'll be able to notice some distance away.

We chose a seat near to the door. At every table, there is a small plaque which spit out the number and a name card of the restaurant. From the name card, you can get the information of the restaurant, the address, phone number, business hours and watch out, it close on Monday. :)

At the other side of the wall opposite our table, there are nice menu's framed on the wall and we can see that there are plenty types of food being served by the restaurant. You'll need to order from the counter, so choose your table and then go to the counter to order your food. I ordered 2 bowls of the famous "white curry mee" and a plate of the "white steam chicken".

This is how the white curry mee looks like when it is served. The different with the other stall is that they don't add in the chili by default, so the soup looks white. The clams looks fresh and delicious......nyam nyam.

Every table have one bowl of the chili ready. It is being capped properly and you can see that the cover is actually cut to let the spoon placed properly.

Put the chili onto the curry mee and mixed it up, nice......but beware, it is quite hot, so careful with the portion you add into it.

The "white steam chicken", it is served cold with sesame sauce and having all the bones removed.

Another famous food at Serdang is the "Paper Wrap Chicken", well there are 3 shops there which selling the same thing, but the most famous and delicious is the one hidden at the back. After getting tips from my sister to look for the one without the air-cond and also have a "女" word on the sign, finally we found the shop.

This is the front of the shop, they actually wrapping the chicken at the shoplot besides the restaurant.

Closer look at the signboard, you can see the "女" word. Their "Yong Tau Fu" is famous too...

This is the menu...simple and clear, every dishes also have photo illustration.

Since we got 10 people, we ordered 10 "Paper Wrapped Chicken". From the look, can see that they actually deep fried the whole thing.

Closer look on it, they pre-cut a hole for you to easily unwrap and eat the yummy chicken.

Well, we also ordered the famous "Yong Tau Fu".

The main bowl of "Yong Tau Fu", it doesn't looks very appetizing, but it taste not bad. I still prefer the original "Ampang Yong Tau Fu". :P

Kajang - Satay Kajang Haji Samuri

Since I stayed at Kajang for 2 nights, it is really ridiculous if I miss out the famous Satay Kajang.. So, with the GPS setup (MFM map really rocks, I can find it as a POI), and in my friends Hyundai Avante (Singapore plat!!!!), we start our journey to the place.

When we reach the place, I was really stunned, because I never know that a place which famous for satay can actually be a 3 storeys commercial building! It is really huge......

Their satay menu, you can see that there is lots of choices and the price is reasonable.
They do offer other food like mee goreng and etc......since those are not the main food, I just skip it.

The ordering counter, they have a very good ordering system, where you have to order and pay first (remember to mention your table number). Then they'll deliver your food. Everything is computerised and it works something like those fast food chains.

They even stick the table number to the drinks (only on 1 of the glass). The drinks menu is very limited as there are not much choice, we all order cold sugar cane drinks.

Then, after a while, the satay arrived. We ordered chicken and lamb satay. The size is quite big compare with others, and it was barbecue to perfection, where the outside is a bit crispy, and the meat inside still soft and tender.

The satay sauce, it is a blend between crushed roasted peanuts and sugar. It is a bit too dilute to my likings. My friend actually take it like soup. =.="

Serdang - Cheras Flat Woo Pin Fish Head Noodles (Branch)

I had never go to famous food in KL or Selangor by intention. However, this time is different, since I went down with my ex-coursemates car (to attend our friends wedding) and I finally own a decent GPS (Garmin Nuvi 255w), it is time to explore...

We stayed at Kajang Country Heights and my friends house is in Serdang, which cause us to pass by this place a few times during the wedding day. Since the place keep showing up in my GPS, we decided to give it a try (my ex-coursemate try it before as well).

This shop is supposed to be a branch of the famous "Cheras Flat Woo Pin fish head noodles", so it is just reside in a coffee shop...

The place is near to South City Plaza (in the road opposite South City Plaza). There is a traffic light and Esso petrol station at the road junction.

This is the coffee shop where you can get the famous fish head noodles.

There is a huge banner hanging on the outside of the coffee shop, so it is not hard to actually notice the place.

The stall is pretty simple, they just setup a cooking area to prepare the fish head noodle, and it is easy to identify them, since they all wear an orange striking uniform. There are 2 chefs cooking the fish head noodles to ensure everyone get their food fast (there are really a lots of people!).

They even frame a newspaper cutting that introduce the place and hanging it on the wall of the coffee shop.

We actually take away the fish head noodle soup since 8 peoples are waiting for us at Kajang. And I finish it off before I realized I didn't take a photo of it. :P

I'll definitely revisit the place and make sure I take nice photo of it!

Seberang Prai City - Nandos

What will you think of eating when it comes to dinner time? Most of the people will try to seek for something special or healthy, some unique or famous food and etc. But sometimes, franchise restaurant is not a bad choice.

Good things about franchised restaurant is that:
1. The service is good.
2. The place is clean.
3. Usually air-conditioned.
4. Food will have a certain standard.

Since it is quite sometime since we step into Nandos, and as usual, don't know what to eat for dinner, we decide to step into Nandos@Seberang Prai City. The environment at this branch is nice, I prefer this than the one at Juru Autocity or QBM (Queensbay Mall).

Some brief history on Nandos (Information from online search. :P):
The restaurant is named after Nandie, the son of Fernando Duarte who is originally Portuguese. He and a friend, Robert Brozin, bought a restaurant called Chickenland in Rosettenville, southern Johannesburg, in 1987. This is the first Nando's restaurant...

The seat is nice, there are some compartments separation and the ceiling is really high...

Once we step, we are served by the friendly waiter and guided to our seat. Look at the happy face.

At every table, you'll see the 4 bottles of Nandos special peri-peri sauce with different levels of spiciness.

This is where I like about this branch, a very big sign on the available level of spiciness you can ask for when you order your food.

Bukit Mertajam - MED Cafe (Japanese Cuisine)

We had drive pass this restaurant for numerous time, but due to the setting of the restaurant, we had always mistaken it as a pub. So, we never stop by and having a meal in the restaurant. Until the day where we stopped at the bakery next door to buy bread, only we realized that it is actually a Japanese cuisine restaurant.

All this while, Bukit Mertajam gave me an impression that it is a small town, with most of the eateries are hawker stall or food court, it never come to my mind that a nice restaurant like MED Cafe actually exists in town.

I had always mistaken it as a pub due to the big "Guinness" word on the sign, never realized the four "日本料理" word below the big red "MED". :P The restaurant is located at the junction to turn into the not so new Maju Utama Business Center in Kampung Baru.

A closer look at the entrance to the restaurant. The design and setup of the restaurant is pretty nice, having ambience light and also sofa setup at a corner for friends gathering.

There is a sliding door at the side of the restaurant for access to the open air seat, where is good for those who wish to have a smoke.

A huge menu with all the available promotion is placed just outside the main entrance for customer to take a look before decide to step into the restaurant or not. There are lots of special promotion for lunch and dinner, it will be even more worth of money if you are a student.

Croquette - Japanese deep fried potato cake.

It comes with the sweet and sour sauce.

This is how it looks like inside. The outer layer is crispy but the filling is soft and smells nice. Becareful when eating it as the filling will be very hot. It is really nice when the potato cake coupled with the sauce. It can serve as a nice appetizer as the sauce really tickling the taste buds with the sourly taste.

This is how you eat it, yes with a fork, not the hand. :P

This is another nice side dishes you should try, the grilled cheese bacon. The bacon is rolled up with cheese filling inside, then it is grilled together with some tomatoes. When you eat it, the melted cheese will start to flow up and filled up your mouth. Nice.......

It is so nice of the restaurant to have special culinary set for kids...

Daughter having nice meal...they serve kids meal as well, but there is not much choice. So, we end up didn't order the kids meal since my daughter still not really can finish up a meal by herself.

Tonkotsu ramen, this is what I ordered. The soup is quite nice, the ramen just nice, not overcooked, but not to say very special. It is up to expectation, worth a try.

Wife ordered Teriyaki Bibimbab, which is actually stone rice. From the look, we felt that it won't be nice, and yes, it is so-so only, I think it is the sauce problem, I didn't see the usual dark color sauce which other restaurant serve together with bibimbab.

Well, eventhough it is not spectacularly nice, it is still ok to eat, so, end up we did finish all the food. :P

Well, I have been thinking about getting my own domain for sometime. Since I already switch this blog to actually note down all the eating places I went to (so that next time I can refer back), I decided to buy a domain. The best thing about www.blogger.com is that buying a domain is way so easy. It is an accidental search (while I was boring) that I found out this webpage (allblogtools) which teach all the tips and tricks for the blogger site.

After 2 weeks of consideration, finally I decided to buy the domain MakanCorner. And here it is, the switch of the domain is easy as well and I still get all the blogspot function at it is.

Kuching - Kolok Mee

For the 4 days in Kuching, we had been searching for a nice Kolok Mee stall. While we thought that we found one and want to try, the shop is closed by noon. =.="

So, at the very last day in Kuching, we tried again to find around the riverside area. While we not able to find any, the nice shopkeeper of the souvenir shop told us where to get it.

Attap street, is where you can find a nice stall of Kolok Mee.

Kuching - Choon Hui Cafe

This is the first I have been to East Malaysia after living for 30 years. So, as usual, there will be some special food at each destination which is a MUST EAT category.

For Kuching, Laksa is the must try. There is this cafe which sells the famous laksa. We went to the shop early in the morning.

The outlook of the shop...Choon Hui Cafe, the famous laksa stall. The shop is just located opposite the Grand Continental Hotel Kuching, ask any taxi driver and they'll take you there. Do remember to go early as it is selling fast.

Really surprise to see this traiditional coffee shop cup, it brings back the memories...

Tada, the famous Kuching laksa...serve with special rice noodle, with some flaky fried eggs and prawns!!!!! The taste is totally different with what you can find in the whole west Malaysia, nyam nyam...Only if this thing can tar pao back, I'll ask my east Malaysia colleague/friends to tar pao for me. :P

Ok, side track a bit, because this is what you'll never see in West Malaysia....:P

Overall, the laksa at this shop is a must try if you are in Kuching (Well, in my opinion. :P)

Raja Uda - Zi Wei Yuan Steamboat

Since I move into "Mainland", I have been longing to try out this steamboat (since lots of people and blog site actually recommend it). Finally, it comes the day where we manage to find 1 Saturday to have dinner at this place.

The outlook of the restaurant. The restaurant is located at Jalan Raja Uda, it is just besides the road with a big signboard place outside of the restaurant. We arrived early (around 7.00pm) and the crowd is not there yet. So, we chose a nice place just infront of the shop.

Happy little girl again...she is always happy and excited each time we brought her out.

This is where they prepare the soup for the steamboat. The special about the soup is that it is cooked with yam, so the color of the soup is very different with the normal "eat-all-you-can" steamboat we found at other place.

It is ala-carte, which means you can order the ingredients from the menu, the ingredients range from fish meat, fish head, prawn, sotong, pork, various vegetables and etc...

The fresh prawn...it is fresh, so must be carefully handle in the steamboat so that it is not over cook or else the meat will be hardened.

Pig stomach...I prefer it to be slice more thin. It taste ok just that seems like got lots of fat on it.

Fish ball...so so only, taste like buying from the wet market, nothing special.

Golden mushroom, it is wet, and it taste like the can food. Not a good choice.

The sauce is nice. It taste authentic and really goes well with the steamboat, especially the pig stomach.

Here is the steamboat, see the color of the soup? It is white and you can actually find some yam at the bottom.

Overview......one good thing about this restaurant is that they still using the old method...charcoal to boil the steamboat, which is really hard to find nowadays (except my mom's steamboat).

However, one thing with using charcoal is that it is really hard to get the soup to boil as the charcoal takes time to go into burning mode.

So, this is how they speed it up!!!!

Bukit Mertajam - Blogger's Cafe

Blogger's Cafe is a new fusion restaurant opened at Kampung Baru, Bukit Mertajam. The outlook of the restaurant looks quite nice and clean, it is just besides the Old Town Restaurant.

There is a long bench set inside the restaurant, we chose one of the table at the end of the bench since we brought our little girl with us. It is easier for her to move around and have fun. The table and chair comes with white marble top, which is my favourite as marble top always give you a clean and nice looks.

Every table has its number and there is a nice looking number plate on top of the table. We chose table number 3...:P

The menu looks nice, but the content is quite similar to the Old Town Cafe. They also provide the ordering sheet for you to write down your order. This is my preferred way of ordering at a restaurant as there will be no waiter/waitress standing beside you with 2 eyes staring at you waiting for the order, which is quite stress for me. :P

Overall, Blogger's Cafe is a good choice for gathering as the environment is really good. Food wise is ok, not spectacular.

Bukit Mertajam - May Tip Restaurant

May Tip is a Thai restaurant, I heard about it and got recommendation from my friend to try it out, so finally I give it a try. The outlook of the restaurant does give people a feel that it is not gonna be cheap. Well, I'll not say that it is overpriced or very cheap, I think that the price is just right.

There are a few dishes that are famous and must give it a try. Of course the first thing when we eat at a Thai restaurant is definitely Tomyam and the famous one they offered is the white Tomyam.

This is the white tomyam seafood soup, I can taste that there are a few kinds of the mint leaves added in.

Another special dishes introduced by the worker there is this: fried vegetable with egg.
The taste is nice and if anyone are there, try this!

Another famous dish is this, the fried pig leg. I can see that every table also have this, so I order as well. It is marinated deep fried pig leg, it is really nice but take care of your cholesterol level after eating this. The crispy skin with the fat level and the melting meat is really yummy......

Alor Setar - Lee & Lee Noodle Delight Restaurant

Since the first time my parents-in-law mentioned about this place, we had been longing to go and try the noodles. Since it is a 3 days weekend and my in-laws had retire, we got more times to visit here and there in Alor Setar.

Well, the restaurant is located off Jalan Putra (the famous road in Alor Setar. :P), just opposite the Star City Hotel.

The outlook of the restaurant.

The good things about this restaurant is that they have a really nice and clear menu on the wall. It is not too many dishes offered until your eyes go blind and take half an hour just to finish the menu and decide what to eat (like the Kim Gary menu. :P).

As for the price, it is a bit steep compare with other stalls/restaurant in Alor Setar, but you'll know why later.

The types of noodles offered is quite a lot. Since it was the first time I visit this place, it is a bit hard to decide what to eat. So, after get some suggestion from the in-laws, we all choose our own noodle's type.

I chose the "dried curry noodle", it comes with some vege, char siew and half prawns (it looks like 1 whole prawn, but it is actually slice into half)

The wantan comes with the noodles, it is a small bowl with 2 wantans inside.

My mom-in-laws chose the "chicken noodle with mushroom", it was mistaken as my wife's choice and she actually ate a few mouthful before realized it. Then, only pass it back to my mom-in-laws. :P

My wife's choice..."B.B.Q. noodle with mushroom", it is actually B.B.Q pork (叉烧) with some mushroom and the half prawns noodle. The price is higher but the portion is bigger as well. It taste good, try it out if you visit this place.

My father-in-law chose "chicken leg noodle with mushroom". The ingredients and the taste is almost the same as the one my wife's ordered, except that the char siew and prawns become chicken leg. Judge by the portion of the chicken leg, it is pretty worth to order this.

The extra order, wantan soup. There are quite a lots of wantan in it...

Talk about the choice of drinks, it is not a lot. So, end up I ordered hot Milo...

Queensbay Mall - Wong Kok Restaurant

It has been sometime since we visit Wong Kok Restaurant. Since we were in QBM and don't really know what to eat for lunch, we decided to go for this Hong Kong style restaurant again.

Well, it is not as good as Boston or Kim Gary, but it has its own good stuff to eat. I'm eager to try their other stuff (since I always ordered the roasted duck noodle only). This time we ordered:
1. Fried Chicken Toast (香炸澳门鸡多士) - RM6.00
2. Butter Bun (旺角菠萝油) - RM 1.50x2
3. Dumpling Noodle (凤城水饺面) - RM8.30

Soya bean milk, nothing to shout about, just normal, cold soya bean milk. For the size, I'll say that it is a bit over price for RM3.00.

Dumpling noodle's full view. The noodle is quite a lot and feel full after finish it up. The dumpling is just so so and not so great. It has a special taste and it will be either you will love it or hate it.
I don't really like the taste. :P

Fried chicken toast. There is no fried chicken. It is actually a fried toast with chicken filled inside. There is also cheese filled inside the toast pocket.

Well, there is no photo of the butter bun since we ask for take away from the start and finish it up in the car (forgot to take photo, too happy to eat it). The butter bun is something you should not miss if you really like buttery food. The bun is actually filled with butter with one coat of sugar and butter on top and baked to a nice golden yellowish color. This will be my all times favourite to eat from Wong Kon Restaurant. :P

Penang Burma Road - Little Cottage Cafe

I heard about this restaurant for quite sometime already, but so far still no time and chances to give it a visits. Yesterday after went to the Penang Property Fair, we have no idea on what to eat for dinner, so we decide to go to this nice restaurant at Burma Road.

Well, it is a restaurant located on the right side of Burma Road old shop houses, you'll need to pay extra attention to locate it (especially during night time). The restaurant itself doesn't have any parking lot for its customer, you'll have to find parking around the area. There is one tiny lane just after the restaurant on the right side where you can park your car. The photo above show the front door of the restaurant. It has a nice decoration and environment.

There are only limited seating at the ground floor, which give us a false impression that there are not enough seat anymore for us. :P Since we wondering around at the front door for a while, the waiter is so kind to actually walk out and offer us seating at the upper floor. The upper floor is quite spacious, which is actually the space of 3 old shop houses! It has the traditional wooden flooring, nice...
Besides that, they have this nice wall decoration on the upper floor as well...

The restaurant have a 5 course dinner sets with several main course choices. The set include buns, soup, main course, pudding dessert and drinks. I ordered set with New England battered fish with chips (main course), with ice lemon tea (drinks), soup of the day (mushroom soup), pudding dessert and buns. My wife ordered smoked salmon pasta, scotch butter cake (dessert) and Little Cottage mocktail. We order extra garlic bread to try it out. :P

Seberang Prai City - Ichiban Ramen

The interior of the restaurant, the lighting is nice, not too bright and just nice for dining, where you won't need to focus hard to know what is in your bowl or plate.

The cooking area is transparent to all the customer. You can see the chef working hard on preparing all the food. On top of the kitchen is a row of the menu with pricing all in japanese writing.

The ramen serving is quite big, and it is not pre-cooked. So, the noodle is just nice to eat.
The soup is bit too salty to my taste. Well, overall, the ramen is nice to eat and the price is ok, not too expensive.

Padang Lalang - Pak Hainan Restaurant

We have been passing this restaurant for quite a few times, each time also wondering what food will be nice in this type of shop. From the outlook, it looks something like "Old Town", so we had no interest to walk into the shop and have a try.

Well, since we had out of idea on where to have dinner, we decided to give it a try, especially after the big newspaper ad shown in "Sin Chew Daily". :P

Malt + coffee Ice...Nice! I love it! The taste is like Horlicks + coffee, the sweetness is just suite my taste.

The nasi lemak, taste quite ok, the the chili is not hot enough.

Overall, the price is ok, not too expensive and the taste is normal, nothing that is spectacular.

Environment is good for gathering and family.

Black Canyon Restaurant, I had been passing it everytime I went to Jaya Jusco Bukit Mertajam, never really pay attention on what exactly the restaurant is, but it gives me a feel that it is a fusion restaurant. But then, after we (my wife, my little baby daughter and I) went into the restaurant and look at the menu...wow, it is actually "International Thai Cuisine". This really surprise us as we are aiming to order something like fish & chip, pasta, chicken chop & etc...

The outlook of the Restaurant at the Seberang Prai City. As we were there, we were great by a nice looking foreign guy with a nice english accent (even better than me). This is another surprise as I was expecting the normal local restaurant type of greetings and servings. To say the truth, it is even better than the Chicago Rib House (My own feel lar).

As we got the menu, we flip through it (this is when we found out it is an "International Thai Cuisine" restaurant) and finally we decided to eat some sort like the "煮炒" style. So, we ordered a bowl of chicken tomyam soup, a egg wrapped vegetables, a tuna sandwich appetizer (it is actually to please my daughter so that she sit there and doesn't jump here and there) and 2 white flagrance rice.

As for the drinks, we ordered a chocolate drinks (my wife) and a cup of mexican coffee (ordered as the cup looks cute. :P).

Here it comes the appetizer, tuna sandwich with fries. Well, McDonalds fries still the best!
The tuna sandwich is nice and fillings as there are really lots of tuna stuffed in it.
My daughter managed to grab 1 piece and mess up the table. :P

Well, the sign of Black Canyon Coffee. The sign actually make me thought it is a franchise from US. But then, it is actually from our neighbour country - Thailand!

Tomyam soup, taste so good, so different with local tomyam. My wife even said it tastes like what she had in Thailand before.

Egg wrapped vegetables, it tastes good.

Lastly, the price is quite ok, the tomyam soup is actually cost us only around RM10.00 (forgot the exact prices) and the whole meal is around RM50.00. If you are there, give it a try, you won't regret. :)
